Irene leaves few scars in New York - FT.com: After days of dire warnings from Mayor Michael Bloomberg and cable news channels about the first hurricane since the mid-1990s seriously to menace New York, Irene weakened sufficiently by the time it arrived along the east coast that disaster was averted.
